"The Lenten Pilgrimage" - Day 19
Wednesday, March 10th
“Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ‘If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.’”
John 8:31-32
We cannot diminish the importance of obedience to the teachings of Jesus for an authentic life of Christian Discipleship. The faithful following of Jesus requires a commitment to adhering to his commands.
The truth that has the power to set us free is realized and made effective through Christian discipleship born of faith and obedience, resulting in a life that seeks to align itself with God’s purposes in the world.
What we do matters. How we live our lives is important. The ability of others to see Christ in us is a nonnegotiable fruit of Christian Discipleship.
Truth can be a fleeting commodity in our world. And the more opposing opinions we hear, the more relative truth can seem to become.
Today, we consider the truth that is revealed in service to the commands of Christ. This is the truth that has the power to set us free, and that will ultimately endure.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, mold and shape us in your truth. Drape us in the garment of your truth that
has the power to set us free from all that is false and life-draining. Help us to be agents of
your truth in the world. Give us wisdom, strength and courage to live lives of careful
obedience to your commands. Empower us to faithfully walk the way of the cross during
this season of Lent so that we may be more fully transformed into your likeness. In your
holy name we pray. Amen.
